1. Finding your (first/next) nonprofit job
At least once every couple of weeks, somebody will message me on LinkedIn or find me via via (it really is a small world), and ask me one of the following questions:
“A friend of mine is in Rotterdam and looking for a gender job”
“A friend of mine is graduating from ___ Studies and looking for a nonprofit job in the Netherlands/Europe”
“Do you have time for a coffee/brunch/walk with me"?”
In an ideal world, I’d be giving free advice to everyone who genuinely needs help, but unfortunately, that’s not the world we live in. It doesn’t matter if you’re a friend of a friend of mine from college, if you’re also a woman, queer, POC, etc. There’s only so much time and energy I have. I’m not a career coach. I’m also just a single person. So, usually, I’ll redirect people to a LinkedIn post I wrote in 2022 after starting my third job search in the nonprofit sector - Which got 13K views, 137 reactions, and 20 comments with more tips.
And here is the updated version - I’ll add more resources as they come along! Once you click one of the links, you’ll find a dozen more, which will help you narrow down your focus. As always - Start with what you like:
Is there a celebrity or public figure you follow who advocates for a given cause? See which organizations they endorse or work with.
Is there an organization that works on your topic of interest (gender equality, climate justice, migration)? Follow them and subscribe to their newsletter (like the RightsCon Rundown)
Is there a community for the cause, industry, or (online) networking event? Sign up for them!
